EA confirmed Madden's 22 franchise updates after cancellation rumors

At the launch of Madden 22, EA promised to treat "Franchise as a Live Service" with ongoing support and updates throughout the game's life after launch.

The CRO's follow-up response stuck with their initial reports, speculating that the updates themselves had only been canceled to be put back on the agenda when the reaction to the CRO's first report came about.

While whether or not they have actually been canceled boils down to whether you believe the EA or SGO in this case, we do have new information on what these updates could be.

Planned update of the talent tree and scenario engine for Scouting

In its follow-up report, the CRO said that the two main features on the Madden 22 series update table are "Scout Talent Tree" and "Scenario Engine Major Update".

The latter would be welcome, depending on its quality, as the seemingly improved scenario engine seemed rather bland this year.

However, the most promising news is the possibility of adding a Scouting talent tree as Scouting was the main bright spot in the Madden 22 franchise.

Adding a new talent tree specific to Scouts or General Team Scouting can add depth and strategy to this feature in an important way that is currently lacking.

Unfortunately, the biggest question mark is when they might come.

When are the next updates to the Madden 22 series coming out?

Regardless of who they eventually become or whether you think they have been temporarily canceled, we know there are updates to the Madden 22 franchise coming.

EA made it clear that two more are on the way in its recent announcement to IGN, and if they don't get delivered it could cripple Madden 23's interest before it can start building.

At this point, the Scouting talent tree seems to be the most likely corollary, as it complements the existing Scouting overhaul in a way that takes advantage of the existing Scout tree mechanics. This would likely leave the scenario engine update last, with the most likely arrival date being late February to early March when we expect Madden 22 to be released on Xbox Game Pass.
