Diablo 2: Resurrected is the second ARPG release that has captivated so many players since its first release in 2000. The ranking ladder, commonly referred to as "season" today, has always been a staple in the online world of Diablo 2 and returns to Diablo 2: Resurrected.
The Diablo 2 ladder usually lasts a few months and all players start over with new characters and empty inventories. This resets the economy and gives players a chance to fight for the top of the XP leaderboard. While Diablo 2: Resurrected still has no real end to the game, such as the Rifty in Diablo 3 or the maps from Path of Exile, the new ladder always attracts players who want to experience the thrill of a new beginning.
Diablo 2: Resurrected still does not have a specific date for the first Ranked Season, but is expected to do so in the near future. Update 2.4 went live in the public testing realm on January 25 and ran until February 9, when it was disabled for maintenance. The initial two-week PTR period gave PC players the chance to test countless changes to class skills, mercenaries, rune words, and more.
The PTR for patch 2.4 is expected to resume after maintenance is completed. A tweet from the official Diablo account said it was "temporarily removed" and we will see it again soon.
Assuming we only get one more test period and it continues the same two weeks after the PST reboot, this could give us a ranking start date in mid-March. If more test periods are needed or if the next test period is longer than two weeks, the starting of the ladder will be postponed.
What can you expect from Diablo 2: Resurrected?
An official post on the Blizzard blog on December 15, 2021 revealed the first details of the game in the ranked.
There are four different ways to play, including standard and hardcore versions of an add-on, and non-add-on content. This will allow players who prefer the first four acts to race against other players in the softcore and hardcore modes, as well as the more popular expansion modes most of us like, along with all five acts.
New Runic Words, Horadrim Cube Recipes, Class Skill Mods, Mercenary Mods, Unique Items, and much more are expected in the First Ranked Season. Some of this content is only available to those playing in a ranked match.
The Diablo 2: Resurrected team stated that they are looking for a four-month period for the initial ladder, although this may change. While PTR is only for PC, the ranked game Diablo 2: Resurrected will also hit consoles.
