Valorant will soon be able to add a new Mechanic
Riot Games released Valorant almost a year ago, and it's already one of the most popular esports titles. In addition to the growing number of maps and agents, Riot may soon introduce a whole new mechanic to the tactical free-to-play shooter for heroes.
Dataminators have been busy studying the latest Valorant 2.08 update. One of them seems to have come across a code referring to the introduction of the 'downed' mechanic.
Valorant YouTuber and influencer RumbleMike, who appears on Twitter @ValorLeaks, posted the discovery on Tuesday. The leak reveals technical information about how the game is dealing with downed characters. Details include a 15-second timer, a 2-meter generation range, and a 2-second generation time. The downed agents have 100 hitpoints and resurrected from 50. In addition, the code includes the commands "Resurrect" and "Resurrection" that appear on the screen.
Riot Games, which is also developing League of Legends, has not announced a new game mechanic for Valorant. Nor did he comment on RumbleMike's discovery. It is very possible that he just found old code from a canceled mechanic. Game developers often leave unused data after rejected plans.
However, it is also quite possible that Valorant will soon have a new technician. If so, the big question is whether the new mechanics will come up with a new game mode. Some commentators have suggested that Riot plans to introduce Battle Royale mode. It wouldn't be an irrational decision given the current popularity of games like Fortnite, PUBG, and COD: Warzone. Others, however, doubted whether such a mode would suit Valorant's gameplay style. Riot Games should also create a card large enough to handle around 100 players in a typical Battle Royale game. This would be a significant investment of time and money. So while it is possible, it may not be likely given your current studio priorities.
Another alternative is that Riot can add knocked down mechanics to Valorant's core gameplay loop. However, it would be a big shock to the game. Other possibilities include adding Spike Rush to the mode or building a completely new mechanics based game mode. Others suggested that Valorant might soon gain a new agent. The potential for excitement may be unique to this potential new character.
This is, of course, mainly speculation. Riot Games is clearly not ready to disclose further information. Until they do so, fans can only guess what awaits in future updates to the popular five-on-five shooter.
