Thoughts on Camps, Seasons and Scaling
I was confused while watching Rhykker's interview interview with the developers. Particularly about the section about Camps. Luis Barriga said that you will unlock waypoints in the camp. He also talked about the narrative aspect of it, and also about how unlocking the camps are meant to feel intimate and impact the world, etc. He then said he'd like the waypoints not to be locked for a long time, and that the progression of the map will be permanent. If I'm not mistaken, it's because I didn't understand something.
I'm curious about how it'll function with Seasons? What Barriga has said suggests (to my mind) that camps and , consequently wayspoints (some of them at the very least) are not reset. If they do, the story aspect and the permanent impact of unlocking camp's access an impact on the world has been lost. If they don't reset then does that mean that you'll have access to the waypoints you have set in the beginning of every season?
If that's the case, then I'm yet sure what I think about this. The reason I'm not sure is because one of the best aspects of it is that it could allow us to decide the place to begin leveling every season. On the contrary isn't it a lot of work in order to get to your level?
Personally, I hate scaling. It completely removes any feeling of progress in an open world. It's an immersion breaker. I think that aRPGs have a require scaling monsters up to your level to ensure that all monsters are in across the globe as well as the loot, relevant. However, I believe that there should never be a need to scale back to your level.
If not, then perhaps all the camps are inherently zones of low level or in zones of safety and there is no reason to scale down monsters, as higher level monsters are farther away?
Many questions NotLikeThis...
Do we have a clearer understanding about the process Camps will be integrated in conjunction with Seasons and how Scaling will function?
And regardless of whether we are aware of how this will function or not, I am curious what people think about how it could be working.
