How Deathloop Multiplayer Works
Deathloop, the upcoming time loop killing game is looking really good thanks to the Edge of Tomorrow / Groundhog Day experience where you live the same day every time. Then when you die, you try to learn from your mistakes in what seems like a relief and a lot of fun. An interesting fact is the multiplayer add-on in Deathloop. Deathloop's multiplayer wants to blend seamlessly into single-player mode and feels like a real challenge to players looking for it. If there's one thing we know Arkane is doing well, it's great games, so there's good hope that Deathloop will live up to expectations.
How Deathloop Multiplayer Works
In Deathloop, you play as Colt, a murderer who one day tries to get freedom and break the loop. To do this, you need to eliminate a few targets on Blackreef Island. With the addition of multiplayer, other players can take control of rival assassin Julianna. From here, they can sneak into your game and kill the Colt, keeping players in a time loop and chasing their targets forever.
Julianna can take on the appearance of all the NPCs on the island, blending them perfectly into the world, making Colt's job much more difficult.
Not to be worse, the Colt also has access to an array of abilities, hacking devices, and other gadgets and weapons that can be customized to suit your playing style.
This approach is somewhat like games like Dark Souls, where other players can invade your world and ruin your day.
What if I don't like multiplayer?
Luckily for those of you who don't want to participate in the multiplayer shenanigans, you can turn the feature off altogether. This is a completely optional experience. However, if you turn off the multiplayer aspect, Julianna will still appear from time to time, albeit as an AI-controlled character. As your main rival, she will continue to challenge players as you try to complete your hits.
It will be interesting to see how multiplayer evolves as it can be a very fine line between this mode and the fun and interesting mechanics that makes the approach to encounters different and downright sad. Hopefully, this changes gameplay in a way that fuels it in new and fun ways, rather than something that many try to take out once and quickly.
With the addition of multiplayer, you may be wondering if there are any co-op modes in Deathloop. Unfortunately it is not available. Invasion-style multiplayer is the only multiplayer mode that will be available in the game when it releases on September 14 this year.
Thanks to Arkane Studios for the great success in creating the Dishonored murder games. I think it's safe to say Deathloop is in good hands and the game is going to be fantastic.
